A Scanner Crappy?

I saw the preview for A Scanner Darkly last night. Either it’s going to be the best Dick adaptation ever, or the greatest sucktitude vortex of all time. (My expectations are pretty low when it comes to these kinds of hopes. 8 or so still years later, I’m still smarting from Johnny “I…want…room service!” Mnemonic.)

Ah, Johnny Mnemonic… Never has Beat Takeshi been more wasted. (And I say this as someone who watched quite a bit of Raid on Takeshi Castle in the late 80s.)

My theory is that Linklater had to get Canoe Reeves on the project to get the funding. So he makes it animation so he can actually overlay expressions on Reeves’s face, and over dub it with the voice of someone who can act. If he does it right I reckon he could totally eliminate all evidence of Canoe from the movie.

Yeah, just saw Constantine and I’m bummed. Boring AND confusing, and Reeves I thought at an all-time low. Too bad. I do respect that he keeps at it-not sure I’d have his resiliency if I were him. I know I wouldn’t.
