I thought it was quite beautiful, and loved all of the various levels that "avatars" existed on, literally and metaphorically, throughout the film. I was really worried I wouldn't like the film--Cameron is not usually my sort of filmmaker, and I tend to find most of his stuff to grate on me--but this film won me over. There were a few moments when I was annoyed because he overplayed his hand and didn't trust his actors to bring the same idea that some of his overly literal dialogue blundered on doing nonetheless, but this wasn't enough to ruin the thing for me. And likewise, though this film makes use of some really familiar character types and cliche narrative devices, it employs them in ways that I found refreshing. I watched the same film you did, Alan.
